Can I send in an application without specifying a position?
No. The district only accepts applications for current vacancies through the online application system. Current vacancies are listed in the Career Center. Click on any job posting for which you believe you are qualified and then follow instructions on how to create a profile and apply for the position.

Do I have to include a cover letter when applying for a position?
A cover letter is helpful because it allows you to highlight your most relevant qualifications in narrative form. However, a cover letter is not required.

Do I have to include a resume when applying for a position?
An up-to-date resume is expected for all certified applicants, and is helpful for all non-certified (classified) applicants.

Does the district consider teacher applicants with alternative certification?
Dalton Public Schools does employ certified staff who have obtained or will obtain clear, renewable certification through an alternative route. Those individuals interested in employment through alternative certification must meet ALL requirements for initial non-renewable certification before the first day of school or placement in the classroom.

The three alternative routes available to employees of Dalton Public Schools are the traditional (enrollment in an educator preparation program while teaching), the practicum (test-out) option through North Georgia RESA, and Georgia TAPP through Northwest Georgia RESA. Information regarding educator preparation and certification is available through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC).

For which positions do I use the online application process?
All applicants must use the online application system available in the Career Center.

How do I know whether the job I am interested in is considered “certified” or “classified”?
Certified positions require a professional teaching or leadership certificate as a minimum qualification. Classified positions include paraprofessionals, clerical staff, and maintenance and operations (school nutrition and custodians).

How long will my application remain active?
All applications will be maintained for at least 2 years. However, anytime a candidate wants to be considered for a position, he/she should submit their personal profile for the specific job.

If I applied for a certified position through TeachGeorgia, do I still have to apply through the district’s website?
Yes. The TeachGeorgia posting is provided as a means to direct candidates interested in employment in north Georgia to the district’s website and application system. If a district application is not completed, the application cannot be distributed to the appropriate hiring supervisor(s).

Is it necessary to complete an application if I have worked for the district in the past?
Yes. You are required to complete an application for a new position even if you have worked for the district previously.

Should an applicant contact the school principal regarding a position?
Applicants should not contact principals directly by telephone or by “dropping by” the school. All available jobs are posted on the district’s Career Center site by school and grade level/content area. Cover letters and resumes for non-vacant positions are not considered applications and will not be maintained as such.

What other documents are necessary besides the online application?
A cover letter and up-to-date resume are expected for certified applicants, and are helpful for classified applicants. The documents should be submitted online with the application by attaching the documents to the candidate profile. Transcripts, reference letters, and other documents are not required until after a candidate has been selected for an interview and is considered for employment.

What happens to applications once they are received by Human Resources?
The applicant will receive a confirmation email from Human Resources once an application has been submitted. The status of the application will be updated online and the candidate may keep up with its progress there. A complete application will be reviewed and - if all qualifications are met – distributed to principals/supervisors as appropriate. Candidates who do not qualify for a position will be notified as well.

What is the salary schedule for a teacher?
The salary schedule for teachers is posted from the "Employees" tab under the left menu item "Teachers" and then "Annual Salary".

What benefits are available for qualifying Dalton Public Schools employees?
Benefits information for all staff classifications is provided under the menu "Benefits".

How do I apply to be a substitute teacher with Dalton Public Schools?
All substitute teachers must first have a clear background check before an application may be submitted. The background check form is available on the website or in the Human Resources Department. The background check costs $50, payable in cash or money order at the time the fingerprints are submitted. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling Mendy Woods at (706) 876-4073. Once the background check is cleared (usually within 2 business days), a substitute application may be completed. Candidates must complete an approved substitute training course and attend a scheduled substitute orientation session before substitute assignments may be accepted. For more complete details visit the substitute information pages.

What is the daily rate for substitute teaching?
Please refer to the pay rate information under the menu "For Substitutes".

Do I have to substitute teach at every school, or can I choose?
Substitutes may choose at which school or schools they will teach. If you don't think you would like to teach high school students or you would like to only teach high school students, the option is yours. You can select only one school, some schools, or all schools depending upon preferences of location, grade level, or subject matter. Some substitutes only prefer middle grades, others only prefer math, and others are open to any school, grade level, or content.
