Brookwood Makes AYP for 2010
Every DPS school, and the school district, made adequate yearly progress (AYP) this year as determined by Georgia's criteria to comply with the federal "No Child left Behind Act." DPS was one of 27 school districts in the state in which every school made AYP. For more information on the results by school, click here.
Summer Reading: Books Coming to Your Neighborhood
This summer, Dalton Public Schools is partnering with the City of Dalton to distribute books to our students for summer reading. Our elementary students make significant gains in reading achievement each year but many students do not have opportunities to maintain those skills over the summer. Transportation to the public library is sometimes impossible and the cost of buying books may be prohibitive.
Therefore, we will take the books to the students! The project is entitled: Big Red READS! The city trolley will be used each Wednesday during the summer months to deliver books to different neighborhoods. Students will have the opportunity to check out leveled guided reading books and also to select books to keep in their home. These books are being provided by book drives at Dalton High School, the elementary schools, and the C3 center. Grants have also been written and donations are being accepted to Big Red READS -Dalton Education Foundation.
