Financial Stewardship

Dalton Public Schools is committed to sustaining an appropriate financial position that ensures educational excellence while being responsive and respectful to the local economy and community. The finance department supports the work of our schools and instruction by sharing knowledge and integrating financial resources to accomplish the goals and objectives of our school system. The finance department strives for continuous improvement to the internal control systems and financial reporting to ensure the safeguarding of district assets.
The Board of Education approves budgets for all funds annually.

Excellence in Financial Reporting
The finance department prepared the district’s first-ever Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for fiscal year 2010. The report earned a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association, which is that organization’s highest award.
Energy Efficiencies Result in Financial Savings
The district saved more than $225,000 in energy costs through its energy savings program for the period September 2010 through August 2011. The savings combine real dollar savings through energy improvements in district facilities, management of energy usage, and comparison of actual vs. projected cost without energy improvements. The district has reduced or realized more than $600,000 in energy savings since September 2008, and 11 of 12 buildings have become Energy Star Certified.
