Rowland Named Principal of Park Creek
DALTON, GA—In a called meeting of the Dalton Board of Education, the Board members named Dr. Rhonda Rowland as principal of Park Creek Elementary School.
“I believe Dr. Rowland comes to us with a natural penchant toward our mission tenets of challenging academics, social capacity, civic-mindedness, and integrity,” said Dr. Orval Porter, superintendent of Dalton Public Schools. “She has a strong sense of values that match those espoused by the school district and she is a great match for the needs of the children who attend Park Creek School.”
Rowland has a doctorate in educational administration, community education, and human resource development from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. For the past 11 years, she has served as principal of Chatsworth Elementary School, which has received five School Bell Awards for innovative programs. Under her leadership, Chatsworth Elementary went from a “needs improvement” designation in the federal government’s No Child Left Behind assessment program to a high performing school.
Some of the more notable programs developed during her time at Chatsworth Elementary were “Three Hours for Parents, ” an initiative which asked parents and grandparents to volunteer a minimum of three hours a year in the school, and special luncheons and programs to honor military veterans.
She was named the Reader’s Choice Best Principal in Northwest Georgia by the Daily Citizen News in 2005 and will serve as president of the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals in the coming school year.
“I am looking forward to being a part of the Park Creek team,” said Rowland. “I am committed to the children’s success and will do whatever is necessary to help them reach their fullest potential.”
She resides in Chatsworth with her husband, Les, and is the mother of three children and grandmother of five grandchildren residing in Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas.
