Weeks of preparation and school-level social studies bees for fourth and fifth grade students culminated in the 2018 District-Wide Social Studies Bee.

Weeks of preparation and school-level social studies bees for fourth and fifth grade students culminated in the 2018 District-Wide Social Studies Bee. The district started with 48 school-level finalists and held two semi-final rounds to narrow the competition down to 12 students.

Fifth grader Robin Dong was the winner of the championship round, and fifth grader Scottie Miller was the runner up, both from Brookwood Elementary. Dong said he knew the answer to the final question, "What large gulf separates Saudi Arabia from Iran?," was the Persian Gulf because it was the same question used in last year's competition in which he was a spectator.

Chick-fil-A of Dalton, Ga provided lunch for the day, and Advocates of the Dalton Challenge Program, a support group for gifted students, provided snacks and the t-shirts. See photos from the competition below.
