Winter Updates from Dalton Public Schools

Welcome back! We hope everyone enjoyed their time off. We are excited to get this semester started off right. See some of the stories we posted in December below.

An anonymous donor from Rock Bridge Community Church bought every family and teacher at Roan School a frozen turkey and roasting pan. We are continuously blown away by the generosity and support of our community!

Roan Student Receives Turkey

Teachers and Rock Bridge volunteers handed out the donations and instructions on preparing a turkey as school closed in December. 

When Rodney Gibson started working at Morris Innovative High School this year, he did not know the extent of the impact his teaching and mentorship would have on the lives of students in his music classes.

Members of Dalton First United Methodist Church bought every student at City Park a new book for Christmas from the school's book fair and hand delivered them to each class!

IB German students from DHS spent the day with German Immersion students at Brookwood to speak in German and celebrate St. Nikolaus Day.

Taylor Parm is using this season of giving to make the holidays a little brighter for patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

After 44-and-a-half years with the maintenance department, Winston Chambers is retiring at the end of 2017.

During Dalton High School senior Rafael Duchesne's search for the perfect Eagle Scout project, the Dalton Education Foundation awarded a grant to a fourth grade teacher at Roan School, Margaret Kolbas, to create an outdoor nature learning area. It was the perfect fit.

A new healthcare class started at Dalton Middle School this year as part of a grand, developing partnership between DPS, Dalton State, Mercer University and Hamilton Medical.

Ivelisse Peters was chosen as the School Social Workers Association of Georgia's School Social Worker of the Year for the Northwest Georgia Region.

Missie McKinney, assistant principal at Dalton Middle, was nominated for AP of the Year with the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP).

Morris Innovative High School social studies teacher Dr. William Lanford has been nominated for the 2017-2018 national LifeChanger of the Year award.

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chose senior Bianca Munguia as the Dalton High School recipient of the Good Citizen Award.

The DPS Nutrition Department received the Cross Plains Full Circle Award for demonstrating best practices in including people with disabilities in the work force.

  • Monday, January 15th is MLK Day and is a Staff and Student Holiday.
  • The next Dalton Board of Education Meeting is this Monday, January 8.
