Summer is Almost Here! Are You Ready?

Just because school is out,

the learning doesn't have to stop!
There is a lot going on this summer - from summer camps to athletics, to summer feeding and book clubs! Make sure your child is ready for some fun this summer by checking out the information on our summer resources page. Click the photo above or scroll to the bottom of this email to learn more!

Fifth Grade Students Get a Glimpse of Middle School Through Cougar Launch 
"Elementary students are able to interact with middle school ambassadors who can coach them on what to expect when coming to the middle school," explained Assistant Principal Heather Lawson. "This day was designed to help 5th graders feel excited to become a Dalton Middle School Cougar!"

DHS Basketball Teams Under New Head Coaches

Brad Beck has been tapped as the head coach of the Girls Basketball team. He replaces former head coach Jim Case who resigned earlier this year. Beck previously served as an assistant coach for the girls program for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Read more about Coach Beck here


David Brock has been named the head boys basketball coach. Brock served as head boys basketball coach for the last two years at Cass High School where he compiled a record of 35-19 and a state tournament appearance. Read more about Coach Brock here


Cole Young and Gerson Gomez Receive State Awards of Excellence
Dalton High School senior Cole Young and Morris Innovative High School senior Gerson Gomez were each selected as a finalist for a Georgia Department of Education Award of Excellence for the Northwest Georgia Region by the Division for Special Education Services and Supports. Alexia Gonzalez Wins Second in International Torrance Legacy Creativity Awards
Alexia Gonzalez, fifth grade student at Westwood, is seeing the success of her invention, "Ca-Brush." Read more about this honor here.

Westwood Teams are Regional Winners for Georgia Stock Market Game
Six students at Westwood accomplished what few adults can: mastering the stock market. Two teams competing in the Georgia Stock Market Game each finished as regional winners. Read more here.

 

Dalton Middle Student Tripp Phillips and his company Le-Glue win first Pitch DIA competition
Sixth grade student Tripp Phillips won the Believe Greater Dalton's first Pitch DIA competition for his invention Le-Glue. Watch the video of him winning here and a recap of the competition here. Learn more about Tripp's story here.

Dalton High Recognized as AP Honors School in Four Areas
For the sixth straight year, Dalton High School has been named to the list of 685 AP (Advanced Placement) Honors Schools in Georgia for 2018. Read more here.

Summer Feeding Menus and Locations Available Here

Text "Summer Meals" to 97779 for a free summer meal location near you! This site includes date of operations, meals available at each location, meal times and more.

Please arrive as close to the feeding time listed as possible. All food must be eaten on site.

Summer Book Clubs for Grades 4-8

1. Pick up your book on June 4, 6, 11 or 16 at a Big Red Reads Location.

2. Read your book.

3. Join us at Sonic on Cleveland Highway for Book Club and snacks!

June 28th and July 19th

2 - 3 p.m. for 4th - 5th grade

3 - 4 p.m. for 6th - 8th grade

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

This Friday, May 25, is the last day of school!
Don't forget that this Friday will be a HALF DAY for all students.

Dalton Hight School Graduation requires a ticket for entry. 

Graduating seniors should have picked up their graduation tickets yesterday. All persons attending will require a ticket. 

Should graduation be rained out, it will be rescheduled for Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on Harmon Field.

Morris Innovative High School graduation does not require a ticket.

High School: register for summer school if credit recovery is needed. 
Summer school will be held from June 4 - July 19 (Monday - Thursday) from 8 - 11:30 a.m.

Registration is May 31 - June 1 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Morris Innovative High School gymnasium.

Courses must be paid for in person at the time of registration: $150 per 1/2 credit course, or $200 for a full credit course. Contact Russ Southerland if you have any questions.

The first day of school is August 7!
