Read about the amazing Dalton Difference-makers we've highlighted in the past few weeks. You can read the story about this new initiative on our website. "Natalie Manget is a rockstar! Last year, I was a teacher in first grade, and my students would LOVE to go to Art class. I remember one student came back into my classroom one day and said, 'Wow. Mrs. Manget is so awesome. I love her class.' So, I responded by asking him why he liked art class so much. His response was so simple. 'Mrs. Manget lets us make whatever is in our imagination. She shows us how we can do different ideas.'
Being next to her classroom this year, I have seen exactly what my student from last year was talking about. Her joy for art and creating is evident through the students that she teaches. She not only shows them how to create, but she allows them to build their own ideas through their art. I am so thankful I am able to work alongside her this year, and I can't wait to see the wonderful things our students will make through her amazing support!"
- Courtney Taylor, Blue Ridge School "I am honored to present the Dalton Difference Coin to Dr. Lynnda Higgins. Dr. Higgins is the lead ELL teacher at Roan School and a true mentor to those around her. Over the past eight years, I have had the distinct pleasure of working side by side with Dr. Higgins when she worked in my classroom to support students. Her commitment to providing students with quality instruction is evident in all that she does. She goes above and beyond to ensure that students understand that they are capable of reaching any goal that they set for themselves. In addition, she strives to support those she works with. She is a wealth of knowledge and gives 110 percent to everything she does. Dr. Higgins thank you for being my mentor and my friend, you truly are the Dalton Difference."
- Amy Sherman, Roan School "After I received the coin, I thought about how fortunate I've been to teach in Dalton Public Schools for the last 15 years. Many people here at Park Creek are deserving to receive the coin, but one person came to mind as I thought about how my journey at DPS began all those years ago. Pam Haws immediately came to my mind. I've been fortunate to teach alongside her as well as serve as her Literacy Coach. I've seen firsthand how she cultivates a caring and nurturing classroom while holding high expectations for her students. Her easy going and caring personality puts students at ease. This opens the door for them to go to her with not only academic challenges, but personal challenges as well. She has helped many students and parents behind the scenes and seems to have a discernment for those in need. Pam is committed to DPS students but she also is a teacher leader. Her experience and expertise influence other teachers in many ways. Her encouragement, compassion, motivation, and grit creates an inspiring classroom that inspires others to be the best they can be for our students at DPS. I'm passing the coin and I'm proud to say Pam Haws is the Dalton Difference."
- Angela McCaslin, Park Creek School "I am honored to pass along my Dalton Difference coin to Melissa Voiles. I have had the privilege of working with her for many years. Mrs. Voiles is an absolute blessing to our students and our district. She serves all students, particularly her ESS students, with so much love and compassion. She makes meaningful connections with her students, and that can mean the world to a child. Mrs. Voiles is such a selfless person and would do anything to help anyone. She spends countless hours preparing for her students in order to give them her best. Her work ethic is amazing, and I couldn't be more grateful to have her working alongside me. Her passion for teaching is evident in all she does. For all these reasons and more, Mrs. Voiles is the Dalton Difference."
