The Dalton Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education convened in a Special Called Board Meeting on Friday, March 22nd, to discuss the search for a new school superintendent following the recent retirement announcement of current DPS Superintendent, Dr. Tim Scott, who will transition to the role of Executive Director of Georgia High School Association (GHSA.)
Dalton Public Schools is proud to spotlight the exceptional accomplishments of 12 fifth-grade students who showcased their ingenuity and creativity as part of the C3 Odyssey of the Mind Team. These talented students recently participated in the North Georgia Regionals Competition for Odyssey of the Mind in Flowery Branch, GA, leaving an indelible mark with their inspiring achievements.
Laurie King currently serves as the Physical Education (P.E.) teacher and Teacher of the Year at Westwood School. Her inspiration to teach stems from a simple yet powerful source – the kids. Dalton Public Schools is excited to announce the recent addition of disc golf courses to each of its schools, thanks to a collaborative effort with Prodigy Disc and Cyra's Simple Goodness. For over two decades, George Woods has impacted the lives of thousands of children through coaching youth sports in the northwest Georgia and Chattanooga area. Now he is being honored for his work as a 2023 inductee in the Rome Elite Sports Youth Hall of Fame.
The Dalton Board of Education has tentatively approved to reduce the operating millage rate to 8.00 mills from 8.09. This would be the third consecutive year to reduce the operating millage rate which was at 8.20 mills in the 2020 year.
