Dalton High School Alumna Sadie Cowan Awarded Prestigious Fulbright Scholarship

Dalton, GA — Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce that Dalton High School alumna Sadie Cowan, a 2019 graduate, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for 2024. Sadie, who graduated with honors from Dalton High School as a full International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma candidate, is an exemplary reflection of the rigorous academic standards and supportive community fostered at DHS.

During her time at Dalton High School, Sadie was a Georgia Scholar, an AP Scholar with Honors, and a member of both the National Honor Society and National Beta Club. She was also nominated for the Georgia Governor's Honors in Math, received the Cydney Gillon Student Athlete Scholarship, and was a finalist for the Posse Scholarship to Boston University.

After graduating from Dalton High School, Sadie continued her academic career at Boston University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with honors and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. Sadie’s Fulbright research grant will take her to New Delhi, India, where she will conduct social epidemiology research focusing on Tuberculosis (TB) and undernutrition.

India, with its significant TB population, faces immense challenges due to undernutrition, which is a major driver of the disease. Sadie’s research aims to investigate the underutilization of India’s main TB response program, Ni-Kshay Mitra, and explore how existing policies can be leveraged to eradicate TB. Her work will contribute to the global fight against TB and enhance the understanding of the intersection between infectious diseases and social determinants.

Sadie Cowan’s Fulbright Scholarship is a proud moment for Dalton High School, reflecting the high standards and achievements of its alumni. DHS congratulates Sadie on her remarkable accomplishment and looks forward to celebrating the continued achievements of its students and alumni.
