Dalton Public Schools Initiates Search for New Superintendent

Dalton, Georgia - The Dalton Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education convened in a Special Called Board Meeting on Friday, March 22nd, to discuss the search for a new school superintendent following the recent retirement announcement of current DPS Superintendent, Dr. Tim Scott, who will transition to the role of Executive Director of Georgia High School Association (GHSA.)

In a strategic move to ensure a seamless transition and maintain continuity within the district, the Board of Education has outlined a comprehensive plan to select the next Superintendent. The Board has emphasized transparency and intentionality throughout the process, aiming to finalize the appointment by May with an initial focus on internal candidates from Dalton Public Schools.

In a statement shared with Dalton Public Schools staff on March 22nd, the Board reiterated their commitment to keeping stakeholders informed and encouraged questions as they progress towards selecting the new Superintendent. The Board expressed their dedication to expeditiously yet deliberately naming the next Superintendent, in compliance with Georgia law (OCGA 50-18-72), which mandates a 14-day waiting period before final action can be taken on the position.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been identified by the Board as crucial areas of focus for the incoming Superintendent, encompassing educational leadership, culture & climate, central office role & focus, learning & student achievement, support, safety & care for students, educational equity, district direction through the Strategic Plan, and effective communications.
