Pending approval, Dr. Tim Scott, the Superintendent of Dalton Public Schools, has been selected by the GHSA board of trustees to assume the role of the association's next executive director, effective July 1.

Dr. Scott has served as the Superintendent of Dalton Public Schools since 2018, bringing with him 19 years of experience in administration across various educational settings. Before assuming his current position, he served as the assistant superintendent of district operations at the Douglas County School System. His leadership roles include serving as principal at Douglas County Schools, Dublin City Schools, and Northside-Warner Robins High Schools, as well as assistant principal at Lassiter High School.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Scott has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving educational outcomes and fostering a supportive learning environment for students, teachers, and staff. Under his leadership, Dalton Public Schools has seen initiatives aimed at enhancing curriculum standards, supporting professional development opportunities for educators, and fostering partnerships with the local community to enrich the educational experience.

Dr. Scott's dedication to continuous improvement and his collaborative approach to leadership have contributed to the district's progress and success during his tenure.

Dalton Public Schools Board of Education Chair, Matt Evans, shared, "We congratulate Dr. Scott on his retirement after over 38 years in public education. When he became our superintendent in 2018, we needed to move forward on multiple fronts—building Hammond Creek Middle School, opening The Dalton Academy, developing a comprehensive strategic plan, improving student achievement, increasing diversity in leadership, and implementing enhanced security and safety measures across all our schools. Under his leadership, DPS made significant progress in each of these areas. During the COVID-19 crisis, he quickly mobilized our district to provide the best education possible to our students. We appreciate his tireless leadership and dedication to Dalton Public Schools and congratulate him on his new role as Executive Director of the GHSA. Dalton Public Schools looks forward to finishing this school year strong and celebrating graduation with our seniors and their families. In the meantime, the Board will immediately work to develop a plan to identify and name our next superintendent. We will provide regular updates to our staff, stakeholders, and our community."

Scott, an alumnus of Georgia College, Troy State University, and ARGOSY University, is poised to become the seventh full-time Executive Director in GHSA history. He would commence his new role on July 1.

Reflecting on his time at Dalton Public Schools, Dr. Tim Scott stated, "As I embark on this new journey, I am filled with both excitement and a tinge of sadness. These past six years in the Dalton School District have been nothing short of extraordinary. The dedication and passion of our staff, the unwavering support of parents, and the collaborative spirit with our community partners and local industry have truly made Dalton a beacon of educational excellence. I am grateful to the city of Dalton, the Chamber of Commerce, and various community groups and municipalities for their steadfast support. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Governance Team for their continuous support and to all board members who have served Dalton Public Schools during my time here for their commitment to our shared vision. While I eagerly anticipate the challenges ahead, I will forever cherish the memories and relationships forged during my time here."

Dalton Public Schools expresses its gratitude to Dr. Tim Scott for his leadership and contributions to the district.
