Exciting Updates Ahead: Improvements Coming to Dalton Public Schools in 2024-25

As we prepare for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year, I am excited to share some significant enhancements that we are implementing to further elevate the educational experience for our students. At Dalton Public Schools, our primary goal is to provide the best possible education for every child, fostering rigorous academics, strong school pride, exciting extracurriculars, and ensuring our graduates are future ready.

After thorough research and valuable discussions with community members, students, and teachers, we are excited to introduce several improvements aimed at refining our educational offerings and ensuring that every student thrives in our schools.

Due to challenges such as driver shortages and bus delays impacting student punctuality, we are implementing transportation zones to streamline routes and ensure efficient transportation. By assigning students to high schools based on their zones, we hope to streamline bus routes and ensure that all students have access to quality education, regardless of where they live.

Letters have been sent home to Dalton Junior High, Dalton High and Dalton Academy students regarding their high school transportation zones for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. These letters contain important information about transportation zones and the school each student is zoned for in the approaching academic year.

I want to encourage all families to review the information provided. We understand that families may wish to explore enrollment in a high school outside their designated zone. Therefore, we have outlined an application process for out-of-zone schools. Families can apply online or through paper applications available at school front offices. All applications should be submitted by April 11th.

Alongside transportation enhancements, we are also introducing revised school times. The new schedule will be as follows: High schools: 7:30 AM - 2:15 PM, Middle schools (HCMS and DJHS): 8:05 AM - 3:00 PM, and Elementary schools: 8:30 AM - 3:25 PM. These changes have been carefully considered to accommodate the needs of our students and families.

We want to reassure families that both of our high schools will continue to offer rigorous academics and provide diverse pathways for students to explore their interests and talents. Regardless of the school your child attends, you can expect a consistent commitment to academic standards aligned with our shared mission and values.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to ensure the success of every student in our district.
