Q&A With Coach Shalisa Love

What sport do you coach?

GHSA competitive, football and basketball cheerleading.

What is your coaching background?

I just started my 17th season of coaching GHSA competitive, football and basketball cheerleading. I have been at Dalton High School for my entire coaching career. In my career, my team has finished in the Top 16, 13 times. We have finished in the Top 6, three times. We were Region Runner up, three times and Region Champs, once. I have also been chosen to coach at CheerHawaii four times. CheerHawaii is an invitational camp that provides a blend of College Prep Cheer and Hawaiian Experience.

How long have you been coaching?

Just started my 17th year

Did you play sports while growing up?

Yes. I cheered from rec league age through college. I ran track. I also danced ballet and jazz at the Dalton Ballet Theatre.

What is your favorite coaching memory?

My favorite coaching memories are watching the girls hit their routine and watching them come off the floor ALL smiles. Holding Whitney’s hand and hearing DALTON called as Region Runner up in 2021 was pretty magical.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?

Would you like to shout-out your family?

I would like to shout out: My mom, Patrice. She was my first cheer coach and she was invested from the time I was 6- through me being a college cheerleader. If not in attendance while I was coaching, she would always call and ask about our routine.) My husband, Torrey. He supports ALL THINGS cheer related.)
