The Dalton Academy recently hosted a heartwarming send-off celebration in honor of one of its outstanding seniors, Andy Reynoso. Reynoso, an integral member of the "Puma Nation," has demonstrated remarkable leadership, talent, and dedication to his team and school throughout his high school career.
As a testament to his hard work and commitment, Reynoso has earned the opportunity to take his soccer career to the next level in Argentina. He will depart tomorrow for Mendoza, Argentina, where he has garnered the interest of two prominent teams, Godoy Cruz and Independiente Rivadavia. Reynoso is poised to showcase his exceptional soccer talents on the international stage.
“I got the opportunity thanks to Dalton United, the local semi-pro team,” Reynoso said. “There was a player there who played for the Argentina third tier. He was watching me practice and play, and he told me that there was a big chance for me to go play at an international level.”
Reynoso played a pivotal role in leading the Pumas' boy's soccer team to a championship victory during their inaugural season in 2021. His extraordinary contributions to the team were instrumental in securing the state championship and bringing home the trophy.
“I want to thank Coach Rury Alvarez and Coach Asher Griffith for starting the program,” Reynoso said. “They started it from nothing, and they did so much behind the scenes that many coaches wouldn’t see. They taught me a lot, not just as coaches but as brothers and father figures.”
Reynoso’s journey began when, after his freshman year at Dalton High School, he decided to take a leap of faith and transfer to The Dalton Academy.
“The Dalton Academy will be forever grateful to Andy for choosing to be one of the first students to walk the halls of our school when we opened our doors in the 2021-2022 school year,” said Matt Mederios, Principal of The Dalton Academy.
Reynoso’s excellence extends beyond the soccer field, as he has maintained a 3.82 grade point average (GPA) and currently ranks third in his senior class. His dedication to academic success has been paralleled by his commitment to serving the community, participating in numerous community service activities, and demonstrating a true servant-leader's heart.
“Andy Reynoso is the epitome of a student-athlete,” Mederios said. “His kind and gentle spirit, respectful manner, leadership among his peers, and positive attitude have left an indelible mark on our school and community.”
Reynoso expresses his heartfelt gratitude to all those who have been instrumental in his journey, including his dedicated teachers, coaches, supportive family, and loyal friends. He acknowledges that this incredible achievement could not have been possible without their unwavering support.
“I want to thank everyone for all the support that has helped me to get here,” Reynoso said. “It wasn’t just myself. A lot of friends, family, and coaches sacrificed a lot to get me here.”
Reynoso expressed his commitment to inspiring students to follow their dreams and passions, undeterred by any obstacles.
“Just because one door closes, it doesn’t mean that another door isn’t opening that you won’t see,” Reynoso said.
