Cats Give Because Cats Care
Cats Give Because Cats Care

Students and staff in Dalton Public Schools participated in this season of giving by sharing with those in need. All of our schools donated to a number of community non-profit organizations including the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, United Way of Northwest Georgia, Blood Assurance Dalton, Dalton's Greater Works and Whitfield Department of Family & Children Services with compassion and generosity.

One example is 15th annual Cats Care Food Drive, hosted by the Dalton High School Student Council.

Laken Land, student council president, shared that the drive, along with the support of several other schools and central office, collected 16,603 cans or 16,321 pounds of food, which will provide 14,092 meals for the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

Student council treasurer Anna Grace Rogers, senior, said it was humbling to see her peers bring in 20 or 30 cans on the big collection day as early as 6:45 a.m. "It's cool to see our school step up and give to the community and to watch our student council work all day to put the cans together," she explained. "Seeing it all come together and be loaded on the truck just feels really good. We are thankful to our school and our student council for working hard all day and giving back."

City Park collected 385 pounds of pennies with their Pennies for Presents collection, which will go to help local families. Westwood students donated toys to their Giving Tree and will help set up for the community Sharing is Caring event. C3 students put on a pajama drive. Roan School put together toiletry bags for the City of Refuge, and Brookwood created a STEM project of soup packages to add with their canned foods for Greater Works. Dalton Middle School gathered socks for Sock Wash. Morris Innovative High, Park Creek and Blue Ridge also collected canned foods.

This demonstration of giving back is just another example of how our students make the #DaltonDifference. As the DHS student council would say, "Cats Give Because Cats Care!"
