Dalton Public Schools is prioritising safety by allowing parents and guardians to easily track their students' bus locations via a new app.
FirstView is an app powered by First Student - the largest provider of school bus services in the U.S. and transportation provider for Dalton Public Schools. This app allows parents to track buses in real-time. According to First Student, it was designed with parents for parents so they can follow their student's journey to and from school each day.
The app also allows Dalton Public Schools to proactively communicate with parents and keep routes running smoothly using routing insights.
Jeff Wells, safety and transportation coordinator, said parents will receive push notifications to their phone letting them know the school bus is getting close to their destination.
"The app will increase safety measures by allowing students to wait inside their homes, versus standing outside in the heat, cold, dark or bad weather," Wells said. "Parents will be alerted as to when the bus is getting close to their stop so they can send their student to the bus stop."
FirstView will keep parents aware of any changes to the bus schedule. In the future, parents could be notified of possible bus breakdowns and receive updates on replacements.
