Morris Graduation Rate Increases, Dalton High Remains Stable

In keeping with the state trend of increasing graduation rates, Dalton Public Schools graduation rate climbed to 81.6 percent, up three percent from 2018, and in line with the state graduation rate of 82.0.

The district increase was a result of Morris Innovative High School experiencing an 11 percent increase in its graduation rate. The 2019 graduate rate for Morris Innovative High was 46.5 percent, up from 35.71 percent in 2018. The school has a number of programs that specifically serve students that are at-risk of dropping out of school.

Dr. Tim Scott, superintendent of Dalton Public Schools, applauded the work at Morris Innovative High School by the staff and students to improve the graduation rate at the school. "I'm proud to see the Morris Innovative High School graduation rate improve so dramatically this year. The Morris staff use the motto, 'Whatever it takes' to help their students and they work hard to help every student be successful. Last year, Morris graduated 80 students in their four-year cohort—some of them would not have reached that milestone without the smaller school environment and the academic supports provided. They are moving in the right direction and that is a testament to the dedication and commitment of their faculty and the students."

Dalton High Schools graduation rate was 94 percent, slightly down from the 95.13 percent in 2018.

"Dalton Public Schools expects every student to successfully graduate from high school," added Scott. "We will continue to focus on providing a rigorous instructional program and the necessary supports for all students to achieve the self-satisfaction of walking across the stage at graduation with a diploma."
