Paola Gonzalez: DHS Senior Spotlight 2018
Where were you born?
I was born and raised here in Dalton. I've lived here all my life except for one year.
Elementary School: I went to City Park
What were you involved in at DHS? Clubs such as Community Impact Team and Skills USA, along with track occupied my time at Dalton.
High School highlights, achievements and awards: A highlight of my high school career would have to be being able to participate in track because I've never been the sporty type until I put myself out there. Another would be when Mr. Wes Phinney awarded me the United States History award for Honors Night my junior year.
I was fortunate enough to obtain the Dr. Jim and Nancy Hawkins Education Scholarship and the Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship.
Plans After Graduation: After graduation, summer should consist of adventures with my friends Jessica and Diana, but will also be dedicated to working at a summer job. Then, during the fall I will start college at Dalton State.
I chose DSC because they have a good educators program.
What did you enjoy most at DHS?
DHS is full of new experiences and opportunities and that's what I've enjoyed most.
Favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher would have to be Mr. Ken Wiggins because he helped me not only with school, but with real-world problems I faced especially during the start and end of my high school career.
Favorite subject or class: My favorite subject is history and environmental science.
What has been your great accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment is earning college credit while in high school.
What has been your greatest challenge?
Juggling school, work, and sports would probably have to be my greatest challenge.
The one thing I am most proud of is... pushing myself enough to try out for track.
Who will you miss most at Dalton High? I will most miss Mrs. Melanie Franey constantly tracking me down when I had overdue library books which occurred more often than not.
I would describe myself as... the girl who always sat up front in every class because she is extremely blind even with glasses.
Something people know me for is... my laugh and constant hand washing.
What do you like to do in your free time? During my free time I like to run and listen to music.
Person who has influenced your life the most and why?
The person who has influenced me the most helps me become a better me every day. I call him dad.
If you knew you could not fail, what would you do?
If I knew I could not fail, I'd bring peace on Earth and eliminate war and hatred with some kind of super power.
If money was not a consideration, what would you do?
I would travel everywhere, invest in time machine projects, expand wildlife conservation, and begin inhabiting Mars if money was of no issue.
My favorite memories at DHS would have to be going to the school dances with my friends.
In 5 years, I hope I... will somehow be on my way to positively impact the world around me and be happy doing it.
