USDA Summer Nutrition Program Begins June 3
USDA Summer Nutrition Program Begins June 3
We will continue to provide healthy, nutritious meals for approximately 3,000 children in the community throughout the summer.

The Summer Nutrition Program for Dalton Public Schools will provide free meals from June 3 - July 19 (closed July 4th) to children 18 years of age and younger and any person with a disability. No fees or registration are required.

Multiple designated sites, such as parks, churches and apartment complexes, will be available throughout the city Monday through Friday at various times (see full list below). Depending on the location, lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. It is requested that meal recipients arrive as close to the standard time as possible. All meals must be eaten on site.

"Our commitment to nutrition does not stop at the end of the school year," said Wimberly Brackett, director of school nutrition for DPS. "We will continue to provide healthy, nutritious meals for approximately 3,000 children in the community throughout the summer. This is a great way for us to get food directly to the community and to give children access to fresh fruits and vegetables instead of junk food."

The Summer Nutrition Program is federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and does not utilize any local school funds. The meals consist of five components that offer children hot, freshly cooked foods that are high in protein, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Food is also being provided for DPS summer camps, several Vacation Bible Schools, all Big Red Reads sites (listed here) and for the Dalton-Whitfield Public Library's 2019 Reading Program events at Blue Ridge, which can also be found on the summer resources page.
