Our 8th grade Georgia Studies classes took learning on the move with a Georgia Studies Scavenger Hunt Question Trail! 🗺️✨
Students traveled from clue to clue, answering questions, making connections, and putting their knowledge of Georgia history to the test. It was fast-paced, collaborative, and full of great discussion!

Dalton Junior High School student Josslyn Rickett received awards from the Veterans of Foreign Wars on 02/10/2026 for her participation in the Patriot’s Pen Essay competition. Posts receive submissions from area students and evaluate their submissions against several criteria, then winners are submitted for review at the District, State, and even National levels. Rickett submitted an essay discussing patriotism to VFW Post 5376 (Calhoun, Ga), which serves Whitfield and Gordon counties. Rickett was not only selected as the winner for Post 5376, but she was also selected as the 2nd Place winner for District One in Georgia! This area covers the entire northwest corner of the state. Rickett received $275.00 in prize money, a medal from the VFW, and several award certificates. Rickett was introduced to the program by her School Resource Officer, Sean Hudson, who is also an Army Veteran and member of the VFW.
Please join us in celebrating our outstanding 8th Grade Young Georgia Author winners! Their exceptional writing showcases creativity and true literary talent. What a FABULOUS day at Georgia Highlands College!🎮✨ DPS students competed in the Georgia Regional Technology Competition, and wow—did DJHS show up and show out! Yesterday, our math students across the school celebrated the 100th day of school by diving into the 1–100 Review Game, focused on Unit 4: Real-Life Phenomena Explored Through Systems of Linear Equations. 🔢📈
Through collaborative problem-solving and real-world scenarios, students reviewed key concepts while strengthening their understanding in preparation for their upcoming math test. A perfect mix of learning and fun because if you can solve systems of equations, you can definitely survive 100 days of school… and we proved it! 💯😄

There is a friendly competition every year between the campuses of Dalton Public Schools. Campuses often help raise funds in support of the Dalton Police and Fire Departments’ “Shop with a Hero” program. The children chosen for the program are students in the district, and the schools that raise the most money get trophies and bragging rights. Everyone wins, really, but this year DJHS won big! DJHS was our top middle grades school, and top fundraiser for the whole district! Our SRO, OFC Hudson, told the staff and students that he would shave if we won, too, and he is a man of his word. We’re happy to play a part in helping some of our students and their families during the holidays. 🎄👮♂️
