Dolores Carrillo Named Dalton Academy’s 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year

Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce Dolores Carrillo, school counselor at The Dalton Academy, as the 2024–2025 Dalton Academy Teacher of the Year.

Carrillo serves students in grades 9–12 and has been part of Dalton Public Schools since 2017. She began her career with DPS at Morris Innovative High School before joining The Dalton Academy in 2021.

A graduate of Dalton Public Schools herself, Carrillo earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Dalton State College and a Master’s in School Counseling from Liberty University.

“As one of the school counselors in my building, I am deeply honored to have been named Teacher of the Year,” Carrillo said. “This recognition holds special meaning for me because my work is rooted in a personal mission: helping students believe in themselves, set meaningful goals, and envision a future full of possibilities.”

Carrillo is a proud product of Dalton Public Schools and credits her own experiences as a student for shaping her work as an educator and counselor.

“My students know they have someone who sees them, believes in them, and will always be in their corner,” she said. “That, to me, is the greatest accomplishment of all.”

As a high school counselor, Carrillo supports students academically, socially, and emotionally, while also guiding families—many of whom are first-generation college families—through graduation planning and postsecondary options. Her work emphasizes student advocacy, relationship-building, and culturally responsive support.

Dalton Public Schools congratulates Dolores Carrillo on this well-deserved honor and celebrates her outstanding dedication to students, families, and The Dalton Academy community.
