Dalton, GA — Dalton Public Schools is proud to recognize Jodi Brown as Park Creek School’s Teacher of the Year. Brown currently serves as the school’s Reading Interventionist and has dedicated her career to supporting students through personalized, inclusive, and innovative teaching practices.

Brown’s journey into education was shaped by a lifelong love of working with children, a strong sense of empathy, and a passion for special education. “From a young age, I have always loved working with children. I knew that I wanted to become a teacher when I was in high school,” Brown said. “Teaching was a natural and perfect choice.”

As a reading interventionist, Brown has made it her mission to help every student become a confident and capable reader. Since 2017, she has offered free reading tutoring before and after school and throughout the summer to students who need additional support. “Every child deserves to learn to read, no matter what disability he or she is facing, and free tutoring is a way that I can help make that happen,” she shared.

Brown believes in tailoring instruction to meet the unique needs of each student. She incorporates multisensory teaching strategies, collaborates with other educators and specialists, and fosters an inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe to take risks. “The rewards I find in teaching elementary special education students are profound and heartwarming,” she said. “Witnessing a student's growth—whether it's mastering a new skill, gaining confidence, or achieving a personal milestone—brings me immense joy.”

In addition to her work in education, Brown is an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she has served in leadership roles and coordinated the church’s homeless ministry for ten years. Most of her community service has centered around serving her church and giving back through education.

Brown says she is constantly inspired by her students and their resilience. One of her most treasured moments came in the form of a letter from a former student, now at Dalton High School, who reached out during Teacher Appreciation Week to thank her for the impact she made on his life. “At the end of the day, the thing that matters most to me is that my students know that I love them and that I believe in them,” Brown said. “When a student recognizes their deficits and truly wants to learn and overcome challenges, it is the best feeling to know that in some small way—I was able to contribute to that child.”
