DALTON, Ga. — The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) announced the new classifications and regions for the 26–27 and 27–28 school years. The GHSA made a change in the classifications. Instead of having two Single A classifications (Division A I and Division A II), the GHSA is moving to seven classifications. Division A II will become 1A, Division A I will become 2A, and each other classification adjusts to one classification higher. Please see the chart below:

As a result of this statewide adjustment, The Dalton Academy will move from A I to 2A, and Dalton High School will move from 4A to 5A. Both schools will continue to compete with many of the same programs they have faced over the past two years.

The GHSA will hear appeals on Monday, but here are the current regions for our two high schools.

ā€œWhile GHSA classifications may shift from time to time, our commitment to our students and community does not,ā€ said Dr. Steven Craft, superintendent of Dalton Public Schools. ā€œWe’re proud of our schools, our programs, and the young people who represent Dalton with pride every day. We are excited that our current regions remained together with only some minor changes.ā€
