In her classroom, Weathers focuses on building meaningful relationships, maintaining high expectations, and helping students develop confidence as learners. āMy personal beliefs as a teacher can be wrapped up by the phrase āanyone can learn,āā Weathers said. āYes, success and learning will look different for everyone, but everyone is capable of learning something new.ā
Weathers is also actively involved beyond the classroom, serving as a team lead and helping coordinate student life activities such as school dances and pep rallies. She believes that creating a strong sense of belonging is essential to student success. āThey should feel that their school is not just a place they must go to check a box, but a place to have community, a place where people care about them and want them to do more and be better,ā she said.
Reflecting on her work as an educator, Weathers shared that relationships are at the heart of her success. āThroughout each of these roles, as a learner, teacher, and leader, I have discovered that the key to success is through relationships,ā she said.
As Dalton Junior High Schoolās Teacher of the Year, Weathers will represent her school in the Dalton Public Schools Teacher of the Year program.
Dalton Public Schools congratulates Emily Weathers on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her continued dedication to students, families, and the school community.
