Dalton Academy Student Named Junior Achievement of Georgia 19 Under 19

DALTON, Ga. — Junior Achievement of Georgia has named Esmeralda Rios, Class of 2026 student at The Dalton Academy, as a recipient of its prestigious 19 Under 19 recognition, an honor celebrating outstanding young leaders across the state.

The 19 Under 19 program recognizes students ages 19 and under who exemplify Junior Achievement’s mission by demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and a commitment to positive community impact. To qualify, nominees must have participated in at least one Junior Achievement of Georgia program and serve as a positive representative of JA’s values.

Esmeralda has participated in JA BizTown, JA Finance Park, and 3DE by JA, using the knowledge and skills gained through these programs to launch and grow her own small business, Esmes Fresas. The student-owned business specializes in chocolate-covered strawberries and other sweet treats and has earned multiple awards for creativity and sales success, including top honors at the Dalton Public Schools Pitch Competition.

Born and raised in Dalton, Esmeralda has leveraged strong community support and JA lessons to build her brand while developing leadership, communication, and presentation skills. She has consistently impressed peers, educators, and judges with her persistence, adaptability, and ability to sell out products at school events. In addition to her entrepreneurial success, Esmeralda participated as a panelist for the 2025 JA Northwest Georgia Business Hall of Fame, further showcasing her confidence and stage presence.

ā€œJunior Achievement has helped me develop the confidence and skills to grow both my business and myself,ā€ Rios said.

As a 19 Under 19 honoree, Esmeralda will receive recognition in Nineteen Under Nineteen Magazine, and be highlighted in the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Additional honors include invitations to her local Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame, a JA of Georgia Board Meeting, and a scholarship to support her future educational or entrepreneurial goals.

Looking ahead, Esmeralda plans to attend Dalton State College to pursue a degree in nursing while continuing to expand Esmes Fresas and connect with customers through online platforms. Her business can be found on Instagram at @esmes_fresas.
