At Park Creek School, students are celebrating Read Across America Week in the most imaginative way! šŸ“š

Art Teacher Adam Sanford teamed up with Media Specialist Hannah Higgins to transform the media center into cozy ā€œbook cavesā€ designed and created by students. Each grade level selected a book theme, and during art class, students brought their caves to life with creative interiors inspired by their chosen stories.

To complete the experience, themed books were placed inside each cave, giving students the perfect spot to dive into a new adventure and celebrate the joy of reading!

Classroom Spotlight: Teachers Mary Bramblett and Megan Rebman at Dalton Junior High School recently combined their classes for a fun and engaging ā€œBook Clubā€! Students chose one of four curriculum-based books to read, then met throughout the unit to discuss what they were learning.

To show their understanding, students created posters that summarized important evidence from the text and made predictions about the story. A great way to build reading, discussion, and critical thinking skills!

School Social Work Week | March 1–7, 2026 ✨

Our school social workers make a powerful difference every day—connecting students and families to resources, providing compassionate support, and helping remove barriers to learning.

We asked our school leaders to share how their social workers support their school communities. Here’s what they had to say šŸ‘‡

"Viri positively impacts our students, staff, and overall school environment in countless ways. She brings a consistently positive presence to campus and is proactive in identifying and meeting the needs of both students and families. Viri works closely with parents to connect them to resources and supports, helping remove barriers that might otherwise impact student success. She is responsive, compassionate, and solution-oriented, which makes her an invaluable partner to our teachers and staff. Her dedication and heart for students have strengthened the entire DJHS community." -Spencer Gazaway, Principal of Dalton Junior High

"Anahi is a remarkable asset to Blue Ridge, and her impact is felt in every corner of our school. She consistently goes above and beyond to support our students, families, and staff, often stepping in before anyone even has to ask. What makes Anahi truly special is how deeply she cares for our students, and she is always seeking ways to ensure they receive the very best. Her presence brings warmth, stability, and encouragement. Whether she’s helping a child navigate a difficult moment, supporting a family in need, or uplifting a colleague, Anahi creates an environment where people feel seen, supported, and valued. She strengthens our school culture simply by being who she is. I am beyond grateful to have Anahi at Blue Ridge!" -Veronica Rodriguez, Principal of Blue Ridge

Dalton Public Schools Celebrates Black History Month: Spotlight on Tyree Goodlett

In honor of Black History Month, Dalton Public Schools is highlighting staff members who make a meaningful impact in their schools and communities. Tyree Goodlett, a teacher at Hammond Creek Middle School, is a dedicated educator and lifelong Dalton native who exemplifies leadership both in and beyond the classroom.

In January 2016, Goodlett made history as the first African-American ever elected to the Dalton City Council—an achievement that reflects his deep commitment to representation, service, and progress. For Goodlett, Black History Month highlights the power of visibility and inclusion in shaping futures.

ā€œBeing a person of color who is a male educator and the first person of color elected to the Dalton City Council is important because representation in both education and local government creates powerful change,ā€ he shared. In the classroom, Goodlett understands the importance of serving as a visible example of leadership and possibility for students who may not often see themselves reflected in positions of authority.

His role in city leadership carries that impact even further. ā€œBreaking barriers and making history sends a clear message to the community that progress, inclusion, and diverse voices matter,ā€ Goodlett said. He hopes his journey shows young people—especially students of color—that their dreams are valid and that they, too, can grow into leaders who help shape their city’s future.

Serving as both an educator and a city council member allows Goodlett to bridge education and public service in meaningful ways. With firsthand insight into the needs of students, families, and schools, he continues to advocate for policies that support equity, opportunity, and community growth. ā€œBeing the first person of color elected to Dalton City Council is not just a personal achievement—it represents hope, progress, and a step toward a more inclusive and representative local government that truly reflects the people it serves.ā€
