Classroom Spotlight: In Crystal Torres’ classroom at Blue Ridge School, students are diving into hands-on science by exploring different types of reactions. Through a class lab, they mixed baking soda and vinegar to observe a chemical reaction, and combined sugar and water to compare how each mixture behaved.

Families are invited to join us for the final Pop-Up Class:
šŸ“… April 22
ā° 12:30–2:30 p.m.
šŸ“ Beechland Resource Center

These sessions are designed for children who will be 3 years old by September 1, 2026 and offer a great introduction to the Little Cats Program.

Dalton Public Schools is proud to welcome students and teachers from the Helmut-Rau Schule in Mainhardt, Baden-Württemberg, Germany!

Over the past two weeks, these visitors have been hosted by our 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade German Immersion students at Hammond Creek and Dalton Junior High—building meaningful connections across cultures and classrooms.

On Friday, Brookwood’s K–5 students had the exciting opportunity to host thirteen students and two teachers for a full day of hands-on learning and fun. From transplanting milkweed in Kindergarten and planning garden plots in first grade, to spelling practice, games, reading, and collaborative activities across grade levels—our BW Lions made the day unforgettable. The highlight? Trapping turtles alongside fourth grade teachers at Lake Shore!

Thank you to our new friends from Helmut-Rau Schule for sharing this special experience with us. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Students from across the district were recognized for their outstanding writing achievements during the event, which honored winners at the school, district, and Northwest Georgia RESA (Regional Educational Service Agency) levels.

The Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition encourages students from kindergarten through 12th grade to develop their writing skills and express their creativity. School-level winners were recognized first, followed by district winners, and finally the Northwest Georgia RESA winners. Students who earned RESA honors will advance to the state-level competition, which will take place next month.

The Dalton High School Catabots are making history! šŸ¤–šŸ”„

Founded in 2018, this incredible team continues to grow, now with 31 student members, a 50% increase from last year. Led by team captains Mia Hurtado and Hla Zar, who proudly represent women in STEM, the Catabots are supported by dedicated coaches Paul White and Meda Conley, along with industry mentors from Shaw Industries and Weems Mechanical, including a DHS alum and former Catabot from their very first rookie team!

Competing against 30 teams, the Catabots advanced to the Final 4 playoff matches and made program history as an Alliance Captain. They are currently ranked 9th in the Peachtree District out of 75 teams and earned the Rising All Star Award for the second year in a row, recognizing their perseverance, growth, and determination despite significant team turnover.

With no team member or coach having more than two years of experience, their success is a true testament to their grit and teamwork!

Next stop: Columbus, GA (March 20–21) with hopes of qualifying for the Peachtree District Championship in Macon this April.

Join us in wishing the Catabots GOOD LUCK this weekend!

Classroom Spotlight🌟: Students in Cameron Lynch's classroom at Roan School learned about what plants need in order to grow. They discussed how plants need space, soil, water, air, and sunlight to stay healthy. Students then planted their own seeds and talked about how they will take care of them as they grow. The activity gave students a hands-on way to explore plant life and practice observing living things.

Yesterday, Dalton Public Schools staff came together for a powerful districtwide professional learning day with leadership coach Joy Kelly.

Through meaningful reflection, collaboration, and scenario-based learning, our team continued the important work of strengthening relationships, building leadership capacity, and fostering a culture rooted in care, empathy, and professionalism.

We are grateful for the opportunity to grow together and for the continued commitment of our staff to support one another—and most importantly, our students. #DaltonPublicSchools #LearnLeadSucceed
